Our Story

Prague Restaurant + Cafe
Founded in 1949, Prague Restaurant was built as a gathering place for the Czechoslovakian community in Toronto — a space where people could come together, share a meal, celebrate traditions, and feel at home.
In 2017, the restaurant found new life under the care of Mariana Sulganova and Karel Tamchyna, who share a deep passion for culture, hospitality, and connection.
With over 20 years in the hospitality industry, Mariana brings warmth, care, and a refined sense of guest experience to every corner of the restaurant. Karel, with more than 40 years in business, brings strength, structure, and an unwavering commitment to community.
Together, they’ve preserved the spirit of Prague Restaurant — a place rooted in old-world recipes, hearty meals, and authentic Czech hospitality — while welcoming in a new generation of guests.
We honor our roots while celebrating the diversity of Scarborough — welcoming neighbours, families, and food lovers from near and far. Whether you’re discovering Czech food for the first time or reliving old memories, you’ll feel at home here.
Czech us out. Everyone’s welcome at our table.

Our Kitchen

At the heart of Prague Restaurant is our warm, homestyle kitchen, where every dish is prepared with care, tradition, and a deep respect for flavor. Our chefs bring old-world Czech recipes to life using fresh, seasonal ingredients, many of which are sourced locally.
From our handmade dumplings and slow-roasted meats to rich sauces, everything is crafted in-house — just like it would be in a traditional countryside home. We honor the past while embracing the present, adding modern touches that enhance, never replace, the authenticity of our food.
Here, cooking isn’t rushed — it’s intentional, soulful, and rooted in love. The result? Hearty meals that warm the heart and nourish the spirit.
